“Come, Let Us Reason Together” Introduction: A. “Come now, and let us reason together, Says the LORD, Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool” - Isaiah 1:18. 1. God invites man to reason with Him in the matter of salvation. 2. We will do that today with seven Biblical syllogisms. 3. “A deductive scheme of a formal argument consisting of a major and a minor premise and a conclusion” (Webster). B. Examples of Syllogisms 1. We wear coats when it is cold outdoors; Today it is cold outside; Therefore today we will wear coats outside. 2. Every virtue is good; Kindness is a virtue; Therefore kindness is good. 3. Seven Biblical syllogisms on salvation: I. BIBLICAL SYLLOGISM NUMBER ONE A. Every spiritual blessing is IN Christ; 1. Eph. 1:3 B. We are “baptized INTO” Christ 1. Rom. 6:3; Gal. 3:27 C. Therefore, we must be baptized to receive every spiritual blessing. II. BIBLICAL SYLLOGISM NUMBER TWO A. We cannot be saved without Christ. 1. John 8:24; Acts 4:12, 10:42-43; John 14:6 B. Christ is the head of the Church. 1. Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 1:18 C. Therefore, we cannot be saved without the headship of Christ. III. BIBLICAL SYLLOGISM NUMBER THREE A. All of God’s children are in His House or Family 1. Gal. 3:26 B. And the church is God’s House or Family 1. 1Tim. 3:15 C. Therefore, all of God’s children are in the church. IV. BIBLICAL SYLLOGISM NUMBER FOUR A. We are baptized into one body. 1. 1Cor. 12:13 B. The one body is the church. 1. Eph. 1:22-23, 4:4; Col. 1:18, 24 C. Therefore, all those baptized into one body are baptized into the one church. V. BIBLICAL SYLLOGISM NUMBER FIVE A. Christ’s blood purchased the Church. 1. Acts 20:28; Eph. 5:25 B. Only one who has been purchased by the blood of Christ is saved. 1. 1John 1:7 C. Therefore, only those in the Church have been purchased and saved by the blood of Christ. VI. BIBLICAL SYLLOGISM NUMBER SIX A. Only one who puts on Christ is saved. 1. Eph. 4:20-24 B. But one can only put on Christ in Baptism. 1. Gal. 3:26-27 C. Therefore only those who have been baptized have put on Christ. VII. BIBLICAL SYLLOGISM NUMBER SEVEN A. Only Christ the Savior can promise SALVATION. 1. John 11:23-27 B. But He only promised salvation to the believer who is BAPTIZED. 1. Mark 16:15-16 C. Therefore, only baptized believers can be saved. Conclusions: A. One must be baptized to receive all spiritual blessings. B. One cannot be saved out of the church. C. All of God’s children are in the church. D. Baptism puts one into the one church. E. Only those in the one church are saved. F. Putting on Christ in baptism saves. G. Only baptized believers will be saved. Invitation: A. Outside of the church, you are lost. 1. Inside of the church, you are saved. B. How do you get inside of the church? 1. Hear the word – Rom. 10:17 2. Believe – Heb. 11:6 3. Repent – Acts 17:30 4. Confess – Rom. 10:10 5. Baptized – Acts 2:38 6. Added to the church – Acts 2:47 C. You will be numbered among the saved as a member of the Lord’s Church.
